Women's Tennis Falls 5-4 at Home to Ferris State

UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team dropped a closely-contested match to the Ferris State University Bulldogs on Sunday (9/14) by a score of 5-4.

The Cardinals started strong in the match, as they held a 2-1 advantage following doubles play.  The #2 doubles team of Izabella Ismailova and Danielle Slonac posted an 8-5 victory to get things started and Lauren Sharp and Shea Donahue notched a 9-7 win in the #3 doubles position.

SVSU was up 4-3 with a pair of singles matches out still, as Abigail Shonk posted a three-set victory at #5 singles (3-6, 6-1, 6-2) and Lauren Sharp had a great 6-3, 6-2 win at #6 singles.

The match would be tied 4-4 with and Shea Donahue saved three match points at #4 singles before ultimately falling in three sets, 1-6, 7-6, 6-1.

"This group of Cardinal tennis players turned a corner today," stated SVSU Head Coach Jenn Boehm.  "We played and fought like champions in both doubles and singles.  We battled back from behind and made our opponents truly earn this one.  Great things are to come if we come out and fight like this every match."

SVSU falls to 0-4 overall on the season and 0-4 in GLIAC play.  The Bulldogs are now 4-0 overall and 3-0 in league play.  The Cardinals return to action on Friday (9/19), as they play at Michigan Tech at noon before competing at Lake Superior State on Saturday in a 10:00 am match.
