ORLANDO, Fla. - The SVSU women's tennis team put up a strong fight against no. 10 Nova Southeastern Tuesday, March 3. After dropping the three doubles matches, the Cardinals rallied back to split singles at Fort Gatlin tennis courts in Orlando, Fla.
"I am very proud of how our girls battled today," said head coach Jenn Boehm. "To take three points off of a top 10 team in the nation really shows the talent and potential of our young Cardinal squad. We know we are moving this program in the right direction."
Freshmen Shea Donahue (no. 4 singles) and Abby Shonk (no. 5 singles) each won in three sets, with Donahue winning 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 and Shonk winning 6-4, 2-6, 10-7. Freshman Lauren Sharp also claimed a singles victory at no. 6, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
In other singles play, Izabella Ismailova dropped her decision 6-0-, 6-0 at no. 1 singles. Meghan Woody fell 6-2, 6-0 at no. 2 singles, and Erin Doud lost her no. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-1.
The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow as they play Presbyterian, an NCAA Division I opponent.
