Cardinals Finish Play at 2015 ITA Regional Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team had four student-athletes advance after the first day of singles play at the 2015 ITA Regional Tournament. After a strong first day of play, Izabella Ismailova, Ana Pico, Abigail Shonk and Danielle Slonac all competed on day two at the tournament.

Slonac fell in a close match of the B Singles to Grand Valley's Madison Ballard. After claiming the first set by a score of 6-3, the match drew even when Ballard took the second 7-5. Slonac was down 8-4 in a third set tiebreaker, made a comeback but would eventually lose by a close 10-8 count.

Shonk lost her match in the same category, falling to Rockhurst's Justine Berezintsev by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Pico competed against Drury's Hadeil Ali and dropped the contest by a 6-2, 6-1 count. Ismailova played in the A Singles against Allie Smith from Indianapolis and fell by scores of 6-4, 6-1.

Saginaw Valley continues GLIAC play with a swing through Ohio, playing at Ashland on Saturday (Oct. 3) at 2:00 p.m. before competing at Walsh Sunday in a 10:00 a.m. contest.
