SVSU Tennis Opens Spring Trip with Win

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team opened its spring trip to Florida with a 9-0 win over Coe College Sunday, March 6 at Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida.

"I was pleased with how we played for our first match of the spring," said Jenn Boehm, head coach. "We had an 8 a.m. match after a long day of travel, but our team was mentally focused and played smart, solid tennis. It was a good start to the trip."

Playing singles first, junior Ana Pico Garcia rallied to win her match at no. 2 singles and provide the singles sweep. After dropping the first set, Pico Garcia found her groove and claimed a victory over her Coe opponent 2-6, 6-3, 10-8. In other singles play, junior Izabella Ismailova won her no. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-2. Sophomore Shea Donahue also put one in the win column at no. 3 singles by a score of 6-3, 6-2.

Senior Erin Doud defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-3 at no. 4 singles. Sophomore Abigail Shonk played well en route to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at no. 5 singles, and sophomore Danielle Slonac finished the singles scoring with a 6-0, 6-0 win at no. 6 singles.

In doubles play, Donahue and Shonk were the first to finish at no. 3 doubles, winning 8-2.  At no. 1 doubles, Doud and Pico Garcia won 8-3; Ismailova and Slonac found victory by the same score at no. 2 doubles.
