Pair of GLIAC Championships Highlight Final Day for SVSU Women

UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University women's indoor track & field team had some impressive performances on the final day of the 2015 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday (Mar. 1) while finishing in fifth place overall with 54 points.

Anna Fochesato had a fantastic performance for the weekend.  She claimed the GLIAC championship in the Triple Jump, posting a distance of 11.91 meters, marking a provisional finish and new SVSU Fieldhouse record.  She added a runner-up finish in the High Jump, recording another provisional with a height of 1.71 meters.  Fochesato also teamed-up with Devyn Powell, Kimberly Balls and Taylor Stepanski for a 6th place finish in the 4x400 Meter Relay with a time of 3:54.85.

Fochesato would go on to be named the the Field Athlete of the Meet and High Point Athlete of the Meet for her efforts.

Stepanski claimed another championship for the Lady Cardinals, grabbing the top spot in the 800 Meter Run with a provisional time of 2:10.89.

Sidney Bischer finished her Pentathlon competition with a fourth place finish, notching an NCAA Privisional mark of 3,308 for a new personal record in the event.

Brittany Johnson finished in third place in the Mile Run, turning in a provisional time of 4:53.40.  Teammate Chantelle Fondren was 8th in the same event with a time of 5:01.36.

Powell finished 6th in the 400 Meter Dash Finals, crossing the line with a time of 57.54.  

The Lady Cardinals await final standings for the 2015 NCAA Indoor National Championships, which are taking place from March 13-14 in Birmingham, Alabama.
