Recruit Checklist

Here is a guide to better prepare you for attending SVSU as a Student-Athlete.

Ideal Time Line Action

As soon as possible: Take the ACT or SAT test as soon as possible. Ideally no later than February of your Senior year. A composite score of 17 on the ACT or sum score of 68 and an 820 for the verbal and math sections only on the SAT are needed to be eligible to compete in intercollegiate sports as a freshman. Students may take the test more than once and the best score in each category is used to determine eligibility. Please indicate to have your test scores sent directly to the NCAA Clearinghouse.

As soon as possible: Apply to the NCAA Clearinghouse for initial eligibility on line at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net or through your high school counselor. There is a $50.00 charge for this procedure. Be sure that your high school counselor sends your high school transcript, including your final transcript with proof of graduation, to the NCAA Clearinghouse. If not already done so, have your ACT or SAT sent directly to the NCAA Clearinghouse (they will not accept copies from your high school).

December: Apply for admission to Saginaw Valley State University (**$25.00 application fee). Have high school counselor send your grades and ACT scores. **Fee may be waived under certain circumstances.

January 1st: Apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA) that can be picked up at your high school counseling offices as early as December 1st. The FAFSA may also be filed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The deadline for the full state aid is March 15th. SVSU Federal Student Code is 002314.

April:  Early Student-Athlete Orientation to take Basic Skills tests and register for fall classes. The cost of this program is $55.00 which includes lunch and a Parent Program. Please RSVP on or beforeFriday, April 18, 2008 to attend. If you must miss, contact Admissions at (989) 964-7420 to sign up for another orientation offered throughout May and June.

May and June: 6. Sign and return Housing contract with a $200.00 deposit.

June: Have your high school counselor send in your official high school
transcripts to the SVSU Admissions Office and the NCAA Clearinghouse.
