AURORA, Ill. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team fell in the team's opening match of the 2014 GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers by a score of 3-1.
The Cardinals had it going offensively to open the contest, hitting at a .471 percentage to take a 1-0 lead with a 25-16 decision in the opening set.
Parkside would respond with a 25-18 victory in the second frame to knot things at 1-1. The Rangers would continue the solid play and post identical 25-22 wins in sets three and four, respectively, to claim victory and improve to 12-7 overall on the season.
The loss to the GLVC opponent dropped Saginaw Valley to 10-7 overall in its 2014 campaign.
Senior Kelsey Ferla was solid on both ends for SVSU, tallying a season-high 20 kills while adding 15 digs and four blocks. Her performance earned her Chili's "Player of the Match" honors.
Fellow senior Makenzie Frodle hit .400 adding a dozen kills and two blocks.
Freshman Tamara Heller had 13 digs while junior Brooke Tiller added 10 to the defensive effort. Junior Morgan Eddy added four blocks and five kills for the Cards as well.
Sophomore setter Kelly Vellucci had 41 helpers on the day for SVSU and chipped-in with five digs.
Saginaw Valley returns to action Saturday (10/18) with matches against Rockhurst at 11:00 am ET and Missouri S&T at 5:00 pm ET.
