BAY CITY, Mich. - Four Saginaw Valley State University volleyball student-athletes were named to the All-GLIAC volleyball team, headlined by Brooke Tiller, who was named the league's 2015 "Libero of the Year" after voting conducted by the league's head coaches.
Tiller had a fantastic senior campaign to round out her career at Saginaw Valley. She becomes the program's first-ever GLIAC Libero of the Year after becoming SVSU's single-season and career record holder for digs. She now has 570 digs this season and 1,838 for her career. Tiller's 570 digs led the GLIAC and her 5.09 digs per set ranked third. She ranked second with 5.06 digs per set in league matches only and in digs with 344. She added 82 assists and 15 aces for the 2015 season as well. She was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team as well for the season.
Juniors Kelly Vellucci and Kaylee Schmitt were voted to the All-GLIAC First Team for the 2015 campaign. Vellucci racked-up 1,146 assists for the year and added 362 digs, 70 blocks and 106 kills from the setter position. Her 9.97 assists per set ranked fourth in the league and her total assists figure was also fourth-best.
Schmitt totaled a team-best 337 kills on the season with 118 blocks for the Cardinals. She had a hitting percentage of .302, Her 337 kills ranked her ninth in the GLIAC for the season. She registered double-digits in kills in 21 of 30 matches this season for SVSU.
Fellow junior Andrea Brigham was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention Team. She posted 325 kills on the year and led the team with 1,033 total attacks. She added 266 digs and 35 blocks as well. She was second on the team with 26 service aces for Saginaw Valley this season.
The Cardinals, who posted a 22-8 regular season record and 12-6 GLIAC mark, await to find out their NCAA Postseason fate on Monday in the tournament's selection show. SVSU was ranked seventh in the most recent NCAA Division II Midwest Regional rankings.
