KENOSHA, Wis. – The Saginaw Valley State University cross country teams competed in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional in Kenosha, Wisconsin, late Saturday morning. The men's team highlighted the day in the 10k race as they fell just eight points shy of the winner, Grand Valley State, to claim second in the team standings. The women's team kicked things off the day in the 6k and finished in sixth place.
Three women finished in the top 50 runners, with Tara Szuper being the top finisher among the women with a time of 22 minutes, 3.2 seconds, good enough for 32nd. Jenna Sweeney finished 38th with a time of 22:10.7. Karissa Picard finished next in 45th after crossing the finish line in 22:18.1.
Kinsie Jacques set a new PR with her time of 22:34.4. Alexis Tracy timed in at 22:36.0, and Isabelle Becker clocked a 22:54.8. Bailey Schmoldt rounded out the finishes for the women's team with a time of 22:59.0.
On the men's side, Jack Lobodzinski set an impressive pace with a fourth-place finish and a new PR with his time of 30:28.6. It is the third time in the last five years that an SVSU men's runner has finished in the top five at the Midwest Regional competition.
Corey Bowers joined Lobodzinski in the top 10 with a PR of 30:40.7, placing him ninth. Nicholas McArdle and Jacob Walker were top 15 finishers for SVSU. McArdle crossed the finish in 11th after a PR time of 30:45.4. Walker also set a PR in 12th with a finish of 30:47.8. Adam Thomas was another of the six Cardinal men to set a new PR. He was good for 16th at 31:12.3 and completed the final time for Saginaw Valley inside the top 20.
Dominic Sulliman finished the 10k in 31:58.8, and Isaac Tanis set a PR with a finish of 32:13.6 in his first collegiate 10k.
The NCAA will announce the qualifiers for the DII Championships on Monday. Those races will take place in Kenosha on November 22.
