SpringHill Suites Cardinal Athlete of the Week
Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth Salem), the junior midfielder on the SVSU men's soccer team, posted a pair of goals in pivotal conference matchups over the weekend as the Cardinals moved to 11-2-3 overall and 8-2-2 and in first place in the GLIAC.
Savage and his Cardinal teammates gained a momentous victory on Friday (Oct. 19) as he found the back of the net off of a diving header on a pass from Robert Short (Goodrich, Mich. / Goodrich HS) with just 31 seconds left to play to give SVSU the win in dramatic fashion over rival Northwood.
Lachlan also posted the first goal of the match on Sunday (Oct. 21) in the 4-0 victory over Tiffin as he headed in a ball that was deflected by the Tiffin keeper on a breakaway by Zach Walega (Saline, Mich. / Saline HS) in the 5th minute.
Savage now has eight goals on the year, which is second best on the team and third best in the conference. Zach Myers (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern HS) leads SVSU and the GLIAC with 11 tallies.
The Cardinal defense has been on a hot streak as of late by shutting out their last five conference opponents.
SVSU will return to action on Friday (Oct. 26) when they travel to Findlay for a 3:30 PM matchup to close out their conference schedule.
