BAY CITY, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team was selected to finish third in the GLIAC North in the annual GLIAC Preseason Poll as announced by the league office today (Oct.28). Chris Webb and Greg Foster were also selected to the All-GLIAC North Second Team.
In the North Division, GVSU was picked first with 172 points and 22 of 25 first-place votes. Ferris was picked second with two first-place votes and 128 points and Saginaw Valley State University was picked third with one first-place vote and 97 points. Lake Superior State University was picked fourth with 92 points, Michigan Tech University was fifth with 79 points, Northern Michigan University was sixth with 76 points and Northwood University was seventh with 56.
Expectations should be high for Saginaw Valley. The Cardinals return a roster loaded with talent led by junior guard Greg Foster (Indianapolis, Ind./T.C. Howe HS), sophomore backcourt mate Chris Webb (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS) and senior forward Keithan Jackson (Grand Rapids, Mich.), who opened a lot of eyes with his strong play on the hardwood as he debuted in the GLIAC. On the strength of this trio, Saginaw Valley has a solid foundation for success this year. Last season, Foster averaged 13 points and 4.4 rebounds and was the top assist man with 91 helpers. Jackson averaged 12.5 points and 9.7 rebounds while Webb was a double-digit scorer for Saginaw Valley at 10.4 points per game. Both Webb and Foster were selected to the Preseason All-GLIAC North Second Team.
In the 2010-11 GLIAC Preseason Men's Basketball Poll, Findlay was picked first in the South Division with 173 points and 23 of 25 first-place votes.
