Tennis Loses Heartbreaker to Huskies, 5-4

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University tennis team lost a hard fought match against GLIAC foe Michigan Tech 5-4 on Friday (Sept. 12).

The Cards started fast, taking games at one doubles and at three doubles. The team of Katie Hanover (St. Johns, Mich.) and Danielle Coldren (West Bloomfield, Mich./Pontiac Notre Dame Prep) won 9-7 at one singles and teammates Cortney Heileman (East China, Mich./St. Clair) and freshman Anessa Campian (Troy, Mich.) took the three doubles match by a score of 8-3.

Saginaw Valley struggled when it got to the singles where Heilman gave SVSU another win 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Jessica Stone (Flushing, Mich.) won her six singles match by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

SVSU falls to 0-2 overall (0-2 GLIAC) while the Huskies improve to 1-0 overall (1-0 GLIAC). The Cardinals are back in action Saturday (Sept. 13) at 10:00 am against Lake Superior State University.
