Cardinals Receiving National Recognition

Cardinals Receiving National Recognition

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's track and field team have received recognition in the NCAA Division II U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 25. The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 24 in the country, moving up from No. 33 last week.

Saginaw Valley is one of six Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools to be ranked in the Top 25, more than any other conference in Division II.

The Lady Cardinals have set two indoor school records so far this winter. Senior Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) set a new school record and an NCAA DII National provisional qualifying time of 4:58.98. Also, the women's distance medley relay team consisting of Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS), Diamond Taylor (Southfield, Mich./Southfield HS), Emily Short (Tawas, Mich./Tawas Area HS), and Meyer broke the previous school record of 12:13.43, by almost 20 seconds, clocking in at 11:56.85.

The Cardinals are back in action this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 10-11) when they travel to Grand Valley State University for the GVSU Big Meet.
